Fado

All the Portuguese people are very proud because Fado has become part of Unesco's World Heritage Cultural Patrimony. Fado (the word means destiny, fate) is a traditional music genre considered as "Lisbon's Song" but it symbolizes the entire country. It has been popularized all around the world by Amália Rodrigues (1920- 1999), one of the most famous Fado singers.

A hedgehog in our classroom

Make your own slide show at Animoto.
Today one of our classmates brought to school a hedgehog in a box. All of us were surprised to see him. It was the first time many of us saw a hedgehog.
Driven by curiosity, we looked for information on Wikipedia. We discovered that the hedgehog is a mammal that belongs to the family of Erinaceidae.
It has Archaic morphological characteristics (such as the dental formula and the conformation of the brain) that is common to the first mammals appeared on Earth. Over millions of years has only change the covering of spines.

GOOD NEWS FOR SPANISH WILDLIFE

Spanish authorities consider Mad Cow disease risk is over in our country; as a consequence, stockbreeders are allowed again to let their dead animals in places where they can be eaten by scavenger birds like vultures.

From the Mad Cow disease appears till now, Spanish stockbreeders and farmers have had to burn or bury animals died by aging, accident, etc. This fact made that vultures concentrated in protected Nature Parks, where they can only eat dead wild animals. As food was not enough, the number of these birds was decreasing.

More than the 50% of vultures in Europe live in Spain. We’ve got three main different species: Griffon vulture, Black vulture and Bearded Vulture you can see at the pictures.

Now, experts hope we can watch again these wonderful birds flying all along our sky.

Autumn traditions in Portugal

“Bolinhos e Bolinhós” (cakes and sweets) is a Portuguese tradition similar to Hallowe’en. It is celebrated in the region of Coimbra (in the centre of Portugal) on October 31st in the evening. On that day children carry some boxes of shoes and go from door to door asking for sweets and money and sing a song. This tradition is of Celtic origin, as Hallowe’en, and was later adopted by the Christian religion. This tradition reappeared when in November the 1st, 1755 an earthquake occurred in Lisbon and thousands of people died and the population of the city became even poorer. As the date was a religious holiday, in the following year people went throughout the city begging for money. Unfortunately from the 1980s this Portuguese tradition began to be forgotten and today there are very few people who remember it, as nowadays most children celebrate Hallowe’en, as other children in the USA and in other European countries. This year in our school, on October 31st there was a masks contest and students created different masks using recycled materials. There was an exhibition at the library and students also sang some traditional songs.
On November 11th we celebrate St Martin's Day - at our shool in the evening there is a big party and students, teachers and parents get together, make a fire and eat roasted chestnuts. On this day we also celebrate our school's "birthday".

My favourite TV SHOW: ''Must be the music''

It's a pop music show. It's on TV every Sunday night at 8.00 p.m. I like it, because It's very funny, interesting and exciting. Young and old people sing songs.
Kora Jackowska, Elżbieta Zapendowska, Adam Sztaba and Wojciech ''Łozo'' Łozowski are the judges. If they like somebody, they say ''YES''. If they don't like - they say ''NO''. We can vote for our favourite singer, too. I like music shows very much.

Visite to an old vine cellar

The Wineries of Notary arise on the slopes of Mount Vulture, in the center of Rionero. The first winery, once housed a restaurant belonging to a well-known man rionerese later emigrated to America. Not far other caves, dating back to about 4 centuries ago, and belonged to the Franciscan monks, have been dug in the rock along a large imaginary horseshoe. Narrow tunnels connect the other ten wineries. The air filled with a heady scent, makes us imagine men and customs of the past. For the characteristic shape, the square outside, once witness and keeper of the life of the country, tended to collect rainwater as a sort of hollow or easy. The company Cellars Notary, certified company for Quality and Environment, according to UNI EN ISO 9001 and UNI EN ISO 14001, proudly carries the enhancement of the Aglianico of Vulture, typical wine of our country.
The " Cantine del Notaio" won a large number of prestigious awards , as the Oscar 2010 National Golden, for the highest number of DOC and D.O.C.G. awarded across all participating Italian companies, and rave reviews on the national newspapers .

The duckling out of tune

PLOT-In a forest lived a family consisting of seven ducklings and their mother. All, except the seventh, were musical genes so that their name corresponded to that of musical notes: do,Re,Mi,Fa,Sol,La,Si In despair for his diversity Si decided to abandon his family and the place where he lived. One night while everyone slept part in the search for a place where all the inhabitants were not intoned. After a while time Si is reflected in the bustle of the city. All of a sudden see a traffic light and stops to talk with him. The traffic light when realize what a color of duckiling abruptly him away. In despair the Duckling wanders the city streets until encounters a rich man who apparently gentle asks him why his anguish and finally reveals its intention to enclose the Duckling in a cage and use it as an object of the game for his nephew .
Scared by this episode the Duckling runs quickly to seek help from his mother. All when see the ducklining back happy embrace him. The mother makes him understand that should not be considered inferior to the other brothers for its diversity because while his brothers would become good musicians he would have valued other qualities and abilities of which he was gifted. It follows from this follows the idea of diversity as a value for us and for society as a whole. Equality is not given by knowing how to do the same thing or all behave the same way but in possibility that everyone has to assert himself freely

From grapes to wine

The territory of our country is known for its wine Aglianico, DOC wine, and considered among the best red wines of Italy. In the Vinitality edition of 2010, has received about 11 major references, and a gold medal. In August 2010 he was recognized as wine DOCG.
Many times we see the Aglianico wine on our table without knowing its origins and production methods. Together with teachers we have created, therefore, a teaching program that has allowed us to discover the process of transformation from grapes to wine. A professor of agronomy, using laboratory instruments, has been with us in this process of exploration and discovery, explaining us many things

Song – The Chestnuts

Recycling old newspapers

In our school we are particularly sensitive to the issue of recycling and environmental protection. One way is to use old materials to create  art works. Using old newspapers, we achieved:

an autumn  tree

 a clown

and an armchair.

It seems strange, but the chair is very comfortable and we do compete to sit down when  teachers allow  us

It's Autumn

We are now in late autumn. The leaves are almost all already allen, and most of the trees in our country is bare. Picking up some fallen leaves, and a wet sponge in the tempera paints of the various colors of autumn, we  pupils of class II E have created this beautiful poster.
